POLITICS AND WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH US??????? #Whatiswrongwithus?

I think I did it now. I told myself and my friend that we had to stop responding to the political things we posted on Facebook. I tried. I really did. And then I posted one that was a challenge and my friend wrote back something like "Really?". I tried to back pedal and another friend caught me trying to excuse myself and stand up for what I'd posted.

So, first, I'm apologizing for getting involved and making digs at people I care about because they think/feel differently than I do.

Which leads me to the question.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH US?

None of us actually know the candidates who are running. But, we know our friends and families.

What is it that makes us so crazy that we insult people we love defending people we don't know?

I truly believe that neither of the candidates gives a rats ass about the middle class, or anything that doesn't in some way benefit them.

So.  WHY THE HELL ARE WE FIGHTING EACH OTHER?

For some reason, we are brought up to believe that we are supposed to belong to one or the other political party. And, as my son-in-law brought up, how the Hell did we wind up with only two?  But it is what it is, so we have to choose. Or maybe not.

BELIEFS CAN BE OUR ENEMY.

The area that belief usually comes into play is in religion. That is because it's faith based and not fact based. This is true about beliefs as well. We hold a belief even when it doesn't make sense.

example: HE HITS ME BECAUSE HE LOVES ME.

CONCLUSIONS:

We are self-destructing over our beliefs.
We are acting irrational due to our beliefs.
We have handed our brains over to our emotions, due to our beliefs.

WHEN THE ELECTION IS OVER AND WE ARE LEFT TO GO BACK TO OUR LIVES, WILL BE HAVE OUR BELIEFS AND HAVE LOST SOME OF OUR GOOD FRIENDS?

WAS FIGHTING OVER THESE TWO ASSHATS WORTH IT.

        THAT'S IT. THANKS FOR READING.

ALL LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIPS SUCK #long-distance-relationships-suck #relationsips

I've been missing my New York friends. It's been 12 years since I moved to Florida and although I love my life here, I miss what I had to leave behind.

My family of origin was small to begin with and not too functional. As I grew up and went into the world of school and work I made some really wonderful friends. They were the heartbeat of my life.

There were of course some changes in those friends in the course of 30 or 40 years, but some of the people were constant. And still are.

I felt like I had family. I'm not sure if you can be truly part of a family that you aren't related to, but that is open for question. I see now, that I "almost" had  family. It really can't be the same, no matter how much you want it to be.

In any case, I was there for every event. Births, deaths, marriages, coming of age celebrations. Holidays and hanging out. These wonderful people were my lifeline to belonging.

Seventeen years ago I remarried and things changed, as of course you would expect. My husband had family, although it too, was, small. Two young adult kids, a mom and step-dad and a brother and sister-in-law. (There were nieces and nephews and cousins too, but not in the daily mix).

And so, we began spending more time with his family, (mostly with Mom) and less with my friends. Except for the wonderful period of time that my God daughter and her husband moved practically around the corner from us. That was heaven. She had her first child while we lived there and I would walk over to their apt. and we would stroll into town and go to the yogurt restaurant and it was wonderful. I cherish those times and always will.

At this juncture, I retired. I knew I had to make a choice. It wasn't an easy decision. I knew that my "kids around the corner" would move to a house and not be there forever.  Still, I wanted that time to last. [BTW, they did move twice, further out on the island and I'm so happy for them.] So, they wouldn't have been around the corner, but it wouldn't have been a plane ride either.

Wanting to stay, we looked at some houses on Long Island and I came home crying in the car. The houses that the banks were willing to give us money for, were, well, not places I could have lived. And, it was that period of time that the banks would have given us money that we couldn't have afforded to spend.  We also didn't have a sufficient down payment because we had no house to sell and it was exactly when the real estate market was bubbling.

You know. The time the Brokerage Houses and Banks nearly ruined our economy? yeah. My timing has always sucked.

Originally I believed I'd be able to live in the southern part of FL, on the east coast where I  already had friends and my New York friends had parents or grandparents living  down there, so I knew I'd see them. Only that's not what happened.

I flew down to Florida to and spent a week with my friends (shout out to Gloria) while her husband took me to see houses. [He and his son were doing real estate at the time]  It was sickening.  Places that had been affordable weren't any longer. The houses I looked at that were almost in our price range, well, there was one that looked like it belonged in bombed out Beirut. The rest were  out of our range, like $200,000 or more and looked like fancy railroad cars or fixer-uppers that were all still too small.

That's how we ended up on the Treasure Coast. We still paid way, way over budget, but at least we got a nice sized house with a pool in a beautiful community.  I had to work another six years to have enough money to pay for it, but in the end, it was worth it. [I have to thank the Universe for that job. I taught psychology at Keiser University and without that job I don't know how we would have paid the mortgage.]

We were happy here except when the market crashed and we were totally under water. Since we weren't going anywhere, it was only depressing on paper. Yeah right.

But that's all just *Another Digression. My rationalization for why I'm here and you're all still up there.

I've come up when I could, and had wonderful times. Best vacations ever! But, as we all know, life goes on and when you're not involved in the day to day parts of it, you drift.

When my friends come down, they all stay with their families who are over two hours south of us. And so, we don't have the opportunity to get together.

So, I'm going to say it. I love my friends, and always will. I'm sorry that I don't know what's going on in your lives and can't be part of it. It is breaking my heart. But it is, what it is.

Thankfully my stepdaughter and her husband and the two  littler boys (our grandsons) are only a bit over three hours away. (LOL if you've ever been in a car with me after an hour).
Her mother-in-law and her mom and her husband all live within twenty minutes of the kids. Her husbands sister is also there with her husband and little daughter.  We all get along and love the time we spend there.

So, what's my point? I don't want to admit it, but I feel a disconnect. I was never good with phone calls or texts.  I was good with emails, although the friends my age were not. At first I communicated with the kids with emails, but everyone has moved on the Facebook (me too), texting and other social media. I'm sorry to say, that it's just not the same. It's great to see all the photos and all, but I'm out of the loop. It isn't a "blame thing". It's one of those things that happens in our lives.

CONCLUSION:

In this day and age of mobility and technology one would hope that keeping relationships alive would be easier than ever, no matter where you were on the planet. And, in some ways that's true. But what you have are virtual relationships, and it's not the same. They aren't real.

I will always love my friends. No matter where they are. That doesn't matter. My heart is theirs. I don't know if they will feel the same. I believe they do. Only it's different and it hurts.

#ADHD AND ME IN ON HALF HOUR lol LOL

GOOD EFFING MORNING.

AT ABT. 8 AM I STARTED TO RESEARCH SOME DEFINITIONS FOR MY NEXT POST. I WENT TO PRINT THEM OUT, BUT PRINTER WAS NOT WORKING. OH NO!

STARTED TO FIX. LOL, BECAUSE I'M SOOOO TECH SAVY.
MEANWHILE, I GOT A MESSAGE ABOUT SHARING MY NEW OFFICE TO ANY OF MY DEVICES. OH GOOD. I NEED WORD ON MY iPad.

NOT SURE HOW LONG THAT TOOK. IT WAS DOWNLOADING UNTIL IT JUST HUNG THERE. YOU KNOW HOW THAT GOES. YOU DON'T KNOW IF IT'S WAITING TO CATCH UP, OR HANGING YOU OUT TO DRY.

And, so, I tired to find the answer. Of course I couldn't. Then it seemed that it had downloaded some other way, but it didn't.

Then, I remember I was trying to download the driver for my printer.

This is what I think of when I hear the word "driver". Well, not him. But he came up on the search, and I decided to share.

It wouldn't let me sign in to my HP account. Had to get new password. Didn't realize I was in and well, you  know. Forever. And ever.

I decided to go to HP on line. maybe that would work. Yeah. I found my model and downloaded the software.

But wait. A small problem. We have a network. My husband has the router at his computer. Okay. Mine was already set up. Except, for some reason, this time they didn't give me a choice of what name do you use. They just wanted me to sign in my wireless to Xfinity. But that's not right.

So, it's 10:40 am. I was in one of those nightmare loops. They keep asking you to choose something which doesn't have the right answer on it.

Then they tell you to find out something about your ip on your browser. But wait. I need to print the instructions because if I take notes, I'll get it wrong. I got it wrong. Plus, I couldn't find it for 15 minutes.

In the midst of the this my poor husband wanted to talk to me before he went fishing. I was less than nice. He got mad. Can't blame him, but hey, I'm losing my mind with this. I can't do one this at a time, and I'm in a fucking loop and you expect me to be able to read AND talk?

So, finally. After making up and apologizing, I did what one does when all else fails. THE REBOOT.

Well, it asked if it were a new computer. I don't know. I don't have a driver and it doesn't work. So, I said yes. Then it asked me to open an account which I did until they told me I had to sign in. Another loop. It did actually recognize that we had more than one IP or router or household numbers or bathtubs and I do not know how. But I was able to print the original paper.

There were actual words on mine. Amazing.

Now I need to see if the scanner is working.  That has been out for two week, but due to what I have just told you about, I've been putting it off.

Do any of you have these problems? Can't stay on one thing if another comes up? Can't do that, so you remember you were doing something else?

Then, curse, keep looking at the clock because you have to leave. I have to leave at the time it takes before my appointment. Like I have a 12 o'clock. So I call it 11:20.  After leaving the house several times at 12, I realized I had to do something different.

This is me with ADHD on meds.  Imagine me without them.

That's All Folks!

Thanks for Reading or scanning or opening or trashing. Whatever.

#branjelina #fact or #fiction MY 9/15/16 POST SHOULD BE REVISITED.

Hi all,

Whenever the news broke, my husband yelled out from his cave, " Angelina is filing for divorce from Brad".

I screamed back, "oh good. Now she's free."

That's because my husband has a crush on her, well, he did for years and it was funny.

What is ensuing is not funny.  I would like you to go back and re-read or browse my post from last week.

The one about how well do we really know anyone.

The only point I'm going to make is about how gossip or rumor is something that can kill.

High school students have  committed suicide because being tormented on Facebook.  Rumors spread about them hurt so deeply they didn't want to live.

Now, an anonymous tip has led to an investigation of Pitt alleging child abuse.

I was never in their presence. I'm guessing you weren't either.

But now, we have doubt. Could Brad have done these bad things? Does he hit children? Or as we now call it, abuse them?

I hope the police are able to do an actual investigation because now we don't know.

Regardless of what the results are, the seeds of doubt have been planted and will always be there.

AND THIS IS WHY WE SHOULD NEVER, EVER, EVER SAY ANYTHING ABOUT ANOTHER HUMAN BEING. THAT HOLDS TRUE,  SOMETIMES EVEN IF WE KNOW IT TO BE A FACT. WE MAY NOT LIKE SOMEONE, BUT TO RUIN A LIFE WITH A RUMOR CAN BE LIKE PULLING THE TRIGGER ON A GUN.

#RobertBurns, #The-best-laid-schemes-of mice-and-men-gang-aft-agley, PLANNING SOMETHING? BEST OF LUCK

I got up early enough to do some blog writing. I no longer remember what I was going to write about. So, in the words or Robert Burns, a Scottish poet, I recalled a famous quote.

"The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft agley,"

No, I wish I spoke Gaelic, but nay I dunna.

So, I’ll translate to the English for those of us less informed.

The best laid schemes of mice and men
go often askew …        well, that could be further reduced to

The best laid plans of mice and men often get fucked. Sorry for the language.

THE PROBLEM WAS ....  my printer wasn’t working.
So, I spent over an hour getting it reset. I thank the Universe that it was finally fixed. Only, during that period of time, all I could think about was how Burns was right.

People plan.
Well, most of us, I suppose plan. And then, as John Lennon wrote, “Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans”.
Got to hand it to the folks on the British Isles. They got some wisdom there.

HYPOTHESIS:

One can make plans but one should be prepared to change them at a moment’s notice.

That’s really all I have to say. This week end my friend told me that when she opens my blog, and it’s long, she closes it to read later. We know what that means.

Life doesn’t always have a “later”. So, while you plan, keep a spare idea in your back pocket.

And try not to be like me and get nuts when it happens. I want to learn to expect things to not go my way. That will help.

Foot note:

The Poem was written to a mouse. Burns overturned a nest while tilling a field and wrote about it. The last verse is below, and translates to*

The present only toucheth thee:
But och! I backward cast my e'e,
On prospects drear!
An' forward, tho' I canna see,
I guess an' fear!

*Animals live only in the present. We should too.

#9/11/2001 #EDITORIAL A FEW DAYS LATE. I NEEDED TO IGNORE THE DATE

My friend send me a Budweiser Commercial that was aired only after 9-11. It got me thinking.

It's funny that the 9/11 disaster pulled us all together, and then ripped us apart within, what a year? We couldn't hold it together as one nation. One group of people with a common soul.
Look at us now. Splintered into a million pieces and divided by a two party war.
Abraham Lincoln. Stated that "A house divided against itself will not stand."

Well, Binn Laden got his dream. Instead of embracing each other we have become each others enemies. Our young men are still losing their lives, everyone is blaming someone else and I don't know what to do about it.
We have a huge number of people in this country. Of course we will never agree on all the issues that we have to deal with. We have learned over the many years that we have existed.  Even our founding Fathers had differences of opinion.

It used to be that at least, during a war, we could pull together, put aside those differences and work as one unit.

Our boys who are dying and being maimed for this country haven't had the chance to understand which "party" they might want to belong to. Their frontal lobes aren't completely formed until the age of  25, so they really can't make informed decisions.  They are too young.  And here they are, expecting to handle watching their friends blow up.
I'm doing another Digression. Sorry. I cry for every person who is involved in this tragedy.

At the same time that we are fighting a "War" overseas, we are also fighting each other. No one will reach across that invisible isle and say, "How can we really make our lives better"? The campaigns and candidates are  all about finding something to scare the voters , US  so they can win and have the power.

Politicians are ego maniacs. Most of them don't give a crap about any of us. I don't care who says what. The only thing they want is to win.

Binn Laden destroyed our economy when he destroyed the Towers. He hit Wall Street with that in mind.  Later, the aftermath made us haters. We hate anyone who doesn't' agree with us.  We hate people who don't worship the same God as we do. We hate people who look different because of their race. We hate people who don't speak English without an accent.

Why? Because we've been told to. By who? Our "leaders".  But are they really OURS?   It's in their interest for us to fight amongst ourselves so we can't see what's in front of our eyes.

It doesn't matter who wins any of the elections. You may think you "won" if your candidate does, but will anything actually change?
I doubt it. We lost it all when the Towers came down.

We had an opportunity to be great.

We messed up. Now, well, I can't see the future, but I have a feeling that it's not going to be pretty and the only thing that can save us is if we can learn to embrace our differences and tolerate them.
This house is divided. We will not be able to stand until we find a way to re-unite.

And, if you recall when Abraham Lincoln made that statement, we had the Civil War.
Here is hoping that we are not heading in a similar direction.

            Thanks, as always, for reading.

#2017 #comedy #preview #comic-video

Oops I did it again. Instead of the promo, this is the start of one that went south fast. That's the only reason it loaded

This was the only video small enough to up load.

I haven't been able to load the preview on you tube, or the ending. All day yesterday and oh boy was I frustrated. I'm sure there are ways to do it but I couldn't get it. No how, no way.
So, if you go to You Tube you'll see the video and, the ending which I put on because I forgot to cue the music (oh my memory) is what landed on my Facebook page.

My You Tube name is Dr. G Lee
Several people will come up, but you'll recognize me.

I really hope you enjoy it. It's not meant to insult the person involved. It's political, but I just thought it was funny. I don't expect that person to do anything like that. So, please. Don't be mad.
But, I would for once in my life, like to get a large number of views.
So, Please ask your friends and family to watch. Normally I don't ask for anything back. I just write because I like to share what I know. This time, I am asking. So, if you can find it in your hearts, please share and keep it in perspective. Let's all laugh. It's the best thing you can do for yourself.

Thanks for reading.
thanks for sharing.
Thanks for caring.

Some days, that's about where I'm at as well.

So, don't hold your breath or turn blue. I'll be getting it up ha ha as soon as possible.

The Psychology of Denial & Rationalization Not a very sexy title, but some important information.

I received a comment yesterday, about a past post I’d written about personality traits. The person wanted a follow up because there was so much more to understand and learn.

I don’t know exactly what focus the asker wanted more insight into. Since I already wanted to do a piece on denial I figured why not give it a go. I had tried to write one quite a while back, but I just couldn’t get it the way I wanted, so I gave up.

Here’s to second chances. {And long explanations. It’s who I am and what I do and it’s necessary so that I can explain everything.} Ps. this could be a mechanism called rationalization. That’s where I tell you the reason for something. The reason is true, but, it’s covering for something else that I’m not aware of.

DEFENSE MECHANISMS HEAD THE GROUPING THAT DENIAL IS IN.

Threatening situations tend to produce anxiety. This unpleasant state can lead to emotion focused coping that is defensive in nature.   Psychodynamic psychologists have identified various defense strategies that allow us to reduce anxiety caused by stressful situations, or our own shortcomings.

Denial is one of many defense mechanisms that each of us has, but are usually unaware of. So let’s start with some definitions.*

DEFENSE MECHANISMS:

Any mental process used to avoid, deny or distort sources of threat or anxiety, especially threats to one’s self-image. Many of these defenses were discovered by Freud who assumed they operate unconsciously. Often they create blind spots in awareness.

HAVING DEFENSES IS A GOOD THING BECAUSE IT HELPS US COPE

Defenses are very important. Who could function while being aware of every awful thing that goes on around us?

As children, we develop coping skills that help us deal with the uncertainties and difficulties in our lives. This is a normal aspect of development. It only becomes problematic when these defenses are taken into adulthood and are no longer necessary and create difficulties.

DENIAL:

This is one of the most basic, and earliest defense to develop. It is used to protect oneself from an unpleasant reality by refusing to accept it or believe it. And when it sets in, you cannot perceive it. It’s like a magician waved a magic wand and it disappeared.

The examples the books use, in my opinion, are not helpful enough, because as in the hearing of someone’s death, or getting terrible results back from a medical test, our first reaction is denial. No, that can’t be. However, these usually have to be replaced by reality at some point.

We have all no doubt had an experience with this. The difference here is that we do ultimately have to accept it because it is a tangible reality.

So how do we deal with things that aren’t so tangible? We can deny something for our entire lives. It can be dancing in front of our face and we don’t see it. Other people do, and they may actually tell us whatever it is they see. We, however, don’t believe them.

The easiest example would be a cheating spouse. I’ll mix things up and say it’s the wife. She’s having an affair. Her husband is in denial. He believes that she works late. He believes that she is going on business trips. Other people may see her with another man and even tell her husband. He will make excuses that he believes. He has to. The anxiety and pain that he would deal with if he could admit it to himself are so strong that it is easier and safer to just not see.

It is, in some way like being deaf, dumb and blind to whatever it is your psyche can’t handle.

Some parents are abusive to their children. Sometimes they single one out and are great to the rest. Don’t ask me why. I don’t know. I do know that it does occur. Often, the child who is being abused goes into denial. Remember, we develop it to protect the self. The child loves the parents, is dependent on them and cannot allow himself to see the hurtful things they do. This can go on for an entire lifetime. It doesn’t have to stop when the child grows up.

Actually, the child may pick an abusive partner, because this is what they believe “love” is. Friends see the bad behavior and tell you. And you tell them they don’t understand. He loves me. It’s just his way of showing it. What I’ve just described could be called a maladjusted defense. It’s doing more harm than good.

I decided I’m going to throw in “rationalization” because I’ve already mentioned it, and two is better than one.

Rationalization is making excuses. It justifies personal actions by giving “rational” explanations, but false reasons for them. Sometimes we are aware of what we are doing. Then it’s more like lying to save our skins.

We often believe that we are telling the truth. “The paper was due today, but I couldn’t get access to a computer until last night and there was power failure so I don’t have it”.

That all may be true. Except, if the person was assigned the paper three weeks ago, doing it at the last minute is not good management.

WHEN GOOD DEFENSES GO BAD.

There are at least a dozen defenses that help us through life. As long as they do the job of protecting us when we need or needed the protection, it’s okay.

The problems happen when they do their jobs to well.

Since pretty much everyone from my family is deceased, it won’t be giving away any secrets to tell my parents story.

My parent’s story:

Mom was an overweight, girl with glasses and buck teeth. Already you have a negative impression of her. She was also very bright and had two younger sisters who teased her mercilessly. I don’t know what other things added to her lack of self-esteem, but those issues happened were fairly early in her life, and the early things usually have the greatest impact. And much to my dismay, are the things we can’t usually remember. That’s WRONG!

She grew up, dieted (always had beautiful hair) and from pictures I’ve seen of her, didn’t look so bad. In her High School Year Book they referred to her as the girl with the Colgate Smile. Both her sisters married before she did, and both married well. An engineer and a psychiatrist. She worked and waited.

Mom finally married at age 28, to a  30 year old, very handsome, divorced man who already had a ten year old daughter. His first marriage was at age 18.

His dad was a tyrant and his mother was chronically depressed. He was also the oldest of three siblings. However, his younger sibs looked up to him. He dropped out of middle school and hitch hiked cross country with a friend instead of going to school. He was bright, but also emotionally damaged.

In any event, if I recall, my mom said she married him because he was the first to ask.  (That may have been true, but he was also handsome and charming which most likely boosted her own esteem.) I’m not saying that she didn’t love him or that he didn’t love her. It was not healthy love.

He chased her for two years before they married. She was a step up for him. Educated and a professional. He was a salesman. Shoes, Chow Mein, whatever.

my mom and dad and grandmother

What was it that my mother wouldn’t see? I’ll stick to the main one. Skirt Chasing. He couldn’t stay faithful to his girlfriends, much less his wife.

And he worked late and played cards and had all kinds of reasons for not being home. And she bought them. She had to. She believed that she couldn’t make it on her own with two kids, so she went into denial.

My sister died when I was 14 and she was 17. The marriage deteriorated after that. My dad’s behavior just kept getting worse. He actually had to not come home twice in one week for my mom to finally confront him. He wanted out but wasn’t man enough to leave.

The rationalization comes later. I had asked why she stayed so long, knowing that she wasn’t happy and with the denial broken, she could say that she knew some of it.

She stayed because of us kids. That’s often true and real.

However, I found out from one of her good friends, that when they were first married, they’d gone away with another couple for the week end. My dad had met another woman, and left my mom with her friends to be with her.

Whoa. No kids yet. What the F---? I never told her I knew. Either she would have denied it, or it would have hurt her, so I let it be. Except for me. I could not understand how anyone would accept that unless they were so damaged that they didn’t know they had a choice. And I guess that’s what she was.

SOME CONCLUSIONS:

Defense mechanisms are necessary for survival. They help us cope with the struggles and traumas of life.

There are, however, times when these coping skills hurt us rather than help us. And if you’re the individual with the problem, you won’t be able to see it or hear about it unless or until you are ready.

SOME ADVICE:

I am sure you know people with the kids of issues and problems I’ve describe. Friends who stay with partners who drink too much, spend too much, cheat, lie, whatever it is you see, but somehow they don’t.

Being a good friend, you may have pointed some of this out. If you pushed, you may have lost a friend. Or maybe just irritated them.

The thing is, that we need those defenses to survive, even when they are maladaptive. You can’t strip away a person’s outer shell without leaving them naked. And you do not want to be responsible for leaving a person with their soul naked.

So, you may just have to accept the fact that your mother, brother, sister, child or friend is not capable of seeing the things you do. You see them being hurt and you want to help. But you can’t. If you can understand and be there for them, well, that’s great. If what they are doing is hurting you too, the maybe you have to be the one to say adios.

You probably think your “whomever” is really stupid. You can’t understand. And maybe, just maybe, you too are in denial about something and can’t see it at all.

I saw this saying somewhere, and I fell in love with it. And now, of course am not sure exactly how it goes. So this will have to do.  It kind of sums this up nicely.

BE KIND TO EVERYONE YOU MEET. YOU DON’T KNOW THE BATTLES THEY ARE FIGHTING.
